Bourbon, by far the most common and popular
type of American whiskey, is distilled from corn, wheat, rye and barley.
By law, it must be at least 51% corn. Also by law it must be aged
in new charred American white oak barrels for at least 2 years, usually
more. If you need to know something

Contrary to popular belief, bourbon does not
have to be made in Kentucky.
Tennessee whiskey (like
Jack Daniels) is NOT bourbon,
it is a cousin of bourbon, that is made slightly differently.
Rye is also a cousin of bourbon, identical
in every way except that the mash of grains must be at least 51% rye
instead of corn. |
